An Edge of Network Gateway is a physical device that is used to connect to things like PLCs and send data back to a central server. This is commonly referred to when talking about MQTT.

The standard for cabling devices together in a network. All new computers come with Ethernet; any reference to 'network,' 'network ready,' 'LAN,' 'LAN connection' or 'network card' implies Ethernet. Ethernet uses cables to connect devices. Many PLCs are connected through Ethernet, meaning they can be connected directly to the network and the OPC server can communicate without going through another device.
