A barcode is an optical, machine-readable, representation of data. It most commonly appears as a series of vertical lines in varying thicknesses above a row of numbers. Barcodes have several formats that serve different uses and industries, and they fall into two categories: standard barcodes and 2D barcodes.

In Ignition, Barcode components are used in both the Vision and Reporting Modules. In Reporting, barcodes are commonly embedded into a table or into labels for dynamic printing.

A way to run your system that deals with creating groups of items instead of individual items. Similar to making a batch of cookies, your machines (the oven) would have a single step (bake) that produces many parts (cookies). A bottling line would not be considered a batching system because it fills one bottle at a time, but brewing the liquids would happen in batches.

Built-in Keys in the Reporting Module provide useful information about a report. A number of Built-in Keys are available to add to a report such as Report Name, folder path of a report, Date, Page Break, and more. They are found in the Built-in folder of the Key Browser.

In Ignition, binding a property means tying the value to something else. This is most commonly done to a Tag value or to a value in the database. Bindings can be fore display or set to bi-directional to write changes back to the source.

This refers to communication in two directions, either both through the same mechanism like Tags, or mapping two together like Transaction Groups. Tags support both reading and writing in the Tag itself. Transaction Groups support bi-directional data movement, meaning they can read from an OPC server and write to a database, or they can read from the database and write to the OPC server.

A bus refers to the Control Bus in a computer's hardware. It is used by the CPU to communicate with other parts of the computer, usually connected directly through cables or printed circuits.

Binary-coded decimal (BCD) is a class of binary encodings of decimal numbers where each decimal digit is represented by a fixed number of bits, usually four or eight. Some devices that support Modbus protocol store data in BCD format, In Ignition, special designators convert data from BCD format to decimal when reading from the device and from decimal to BCD when writing back to the device.
