--- title: "system.vision.getAvailableLocales" description: "Returns a collection of the locales defined on the system, as strings." --- # system.vision.getAvailableLocales > Returns a collection of the locales defined on the system, as strings. :::info Backwards Compatibility This function replaces [system.util.getAvailableLocales](versioned_docs\version-deprecated\system-functions\system-util-deprecated\system-util-getAvailableLocales\system-util-getAvailableLocales.md). Any scripts containing Vision Client scoped functions that were replaced with system.vision syntax will still work to maintain backwards compatibility. ::: This function is used in **Python Scripting**. ## Description Returns a collection of the locales defined on the system, as strings. Note that these are only the locales that are defined in the translation system. ## Client Permission Restrictions This scripting function has no [Client Permission](../../../ignition-modules/vision/vision-project-properties/vision-project-properties.md#vision-permissions-properties) restrictions. ## Syntax `system.vision.getAvailableLocales()` ### Parameters Nothing ### Returns **List** - A list of strings, each representing a locale defined in the translation system. :::note Locale Format The returned strings use the legacy underscore form (such as `en_US`) rather than a [BCP-47 language tag](../../../platform/localization-and-languages/locale-formats/locale-formats.md) (such as `en-US`). If you need to pass one of these values somewhere that expects a language tag, replace the underscore with a hyphen. See [Locale Formats and Language Tags](../../../platform/localization-and-languages/locale-formats/locale-formats.md). ::: ### Scope Vision Client ## Code Examples ```python title="Example #1" # This example simply lists the available locales for the system. system.vision.getAvailableLocales() ```
