# system.eam.getGroups

> Returns the names of the defined agent organizational groups in the Gateway.

This function is used in **Python Scripting**.

## Description
Returns the names of the defined agent organizational groups in the Gateway. This function can only be called from the Controller. If called from an Agent, this function will return an exception.

## Client Permission Restrictions
This scripting function has no [Client Permission](../../../ignition-modules/vision/vision-project-properties/vision-project-properties.md#vision-permissions-properties) restrictions.

## Syntax
`system.eam.getGroups()`

### Parameters
Nothing

### Returns
A list of group names.

### Scope
Gateway, Vision Client, Perspective Session
