--- title: "Catalyst Designer Interface" --- # Catalyst Designer Interface > If you have multiple model providers configured, you can select which one to use in the Designer by clicking on the Ask AI icon on the bottom of the Designer window. From this menu, you can also refresh the list of model providers your Designer can see. This is useful if you added a model provider in your Gateway, but the Designer does not see it. ## AI in the Designer The Catalyst Core module embeds AI throughout the Designer to help you build and update your project. The areas where you can use AI are denoted by a purple Ask AI ![Purple Ask AI icon](imgs\ask-ai-icon.png) icon. Clicking on the Ask AI icon will open a popup chat box that allows you to converse with your selected [model provider](ignition-modules\catalyst\catalyst-core\catalyst-core.md#model-providers). If you do not have a model provider configured, you will not be able to use any AI in the Designer. ### Switching Providers and Models in the Designer ![Menu with multiple model providers available to choose from at the bottom of the Designer](imgs\ai-in-the-designer-choose-model-provider.png) You can also select a specific model from your model provider by clicking on the model itself to the right of the Ask AI icon. ![Menu with multiple models available to choose from at the bottom of the Designer](imgs\ai-in-the-designer-choose-model.png) ### AI in Designer Subsystems The following table details which subsystems and workspaces in the Designer have AI. | Subsystem/Workspace | Resources | |---|---| | Scripting | [Gateway Events](platform\scripting\scripting-in-ignition\gateway-event-scripts\gateway-event-scripts.md)MessageScheduledTag ChangeTimerShutdownStartupUpdate [Project Library](platform\scripting\scripting-in-ignition\project-library\project-library.md) | | Perspective | [Custom Methods](ignition-modules\perspective\scripting-in-perspective\perspective-component-methods.md)[Message Handlers](ignition-modules\perspective\scripting-in-perspective\component-message-handlers.md)[Property Change Scripts](ignition-modules\perspective\scripting-in-perspective\perspective-property-change-scripts.md)[Perspective Session Event Scripts](ignition-modules\perspective\scripting-in-perspective\perspective-session-events-scripts.md)KeystrokeMessageAccelerometerAuthentication ChallengeBarcodeBluetoothNFCPage StartupShutdownStartup | | Vision | [Client Events](ignition-modules\vision\scripting-in-vision\client-event-scripts\client-event-scripts.md): KeystrokeMessageTag ChangeTimerShutdownShutdown-interceptStartup | | Event Streams | [Stages](ignition-modules\event-streams\event-streams.md#event-stream-stages): FilterTransformScript HandlerError Handler | | Files | Blank FileMarkdown FileText File | | [Named Queries](platform\sql-in-ignition\named-queries\named-queries.md) | Blank QuerySelect QueryUpdate Query Note that the Named Query Workspace uses a **Build with AI** button instead of the usual **Ask AI** icon. | | Reports | [Script Data Source](ignition-modules\reporting\report-data\scripting-data-source\scripting-data-source.md) | | Web Dev | [Python Resource](ignition-modules\web-dev\web-dev.md#python-resources) | | Tag Browser | [Tag Event Scripts](platform\tags\tag-event-scripts\tag-event-scripts.md)[UDT Definitions](platform\tags\user-defined-types-udts\user-defined-types-udts.md)[AI Multi-instance Wizard](platform\tags\user-defined-types-udts\udt-multi-instance-wizard\udt-multi-instance-wizard.md#ai-multi-instance-wizard) | | Script Console | There are no submenus or subsystems within the Script Console for additional AI integration.| | DB Query Browser | There are no submenus or subsystems within the DB Query Browser for additional AI integration. | ### Using Designer Assistants When you use AI, the AI agent will provide a preview of the content it has produced. However, no changes will actually go into affect until you decide to apply the AI agent's suggested changes. Besides the Designer's AI, you can use your own custom [AI agents](ignition-modules\catalyst\catalyst-agent\catalyst-agent.md#agents). Your AI agents can be invoked by using a [system.ai](appendix\scripting-functions\system-ai\system-ai.md) scripting function, or through the Perspective [AI Chat](appendix\components\perspective-components\perspective-embedded-palette\perspective-ai-chat\perspective-ai-chat.md) component. ## Catalyst Agent Designer Tools The Catalyst Agent workspace in the Designer is enabled by the Catalyst Agent module. Once this module is installed, the Catalyst Agent Workspace will be displayed in the Project Browser with a Tools listing. Tools are defined scripts that run when invoked by an AI agent. Values provided by callers will be passed as the parameters into the invoked script. ![The AI workspace in the Designer used for creating custom tools](imgs/ai-designer-tools-workspace.png) The custom tools created in the Designer will be available to configure on the Gateway with available agents and MCP server connections. See the [Catalyst Agent](ignition-modules\catalyst\catalyst-agent\catalyst-agent.md) page for more information on creating agents and MCP server connections. To create a tool in the Designer: 1. Select **Calyst Agent** > **Tools** in the Project Browser to open the Catalyst Agent workspace. 2. Enter a name for the tool and click **Create**. 3. On the **Settings** tab, fill in the **Description** field with the function and scope of the tool. 4. On the **Authoring** tab, create any necessary parameters and define a script to run. ![The Authoring tab for a new tool where the script and parameters are defined.](imgs/ai-designer-tools-authoring-tab.png) 5. On the **Permissions** tab, select the required security levels agents and callers must hold to invoke the tool. 6. **Save** the project.
