Ethernet
Abbreviation(s):
Synonym(s):
The standard for cabling devices together in a network. All new computers come with Ethernet; any reference to 'network,' 'network ready,' 'LAN,' 'LAN connection' or 'network card' implies Ethernet. Ethernet uses cables to connect devices. Many PLCs are connected through Ethernet, meaning they can be connected directly to the network and the OPCserver can communicate without going through another device. A serial-to-Ethernet converter (device) can be used on some older serial PLCs to make them appear on the network as normal EthernetPLCs. See also Network, LAN, Edge of Network Gateway.
